07/08 - Marine Technology Society

In May, Jim Decker of Colmek and Anthony Davis from Coda Octopus helped judge Marine Technology Societys (MTS) 2008 Pacific Northwest Regional ROV Challenge event held in Seattle. The Event was executed by Fritz Stahr of UW Oceanographic Department and showcased 14 teams of teens from Washington, Oregon, and British Columbia and aged between 10 to 18 and whose ROV designs, engineering, and construction were put to the test in three underwater missions.

Colmek & Coda jointly contributed $300 to the event. Jim commented about the event saying it was "A nice event, well coordinated and planned out...many innovative ideas and excellent teamwork. The students incorporated their aptitude in science, technology, collaboration, creative problem solving, and critical thinking skills that will encourage success for the future. The winner received a trophy and cash prize and had the opportunity to compete in June on the National level in San Diego.
